The raw silk production in India both in terms of quality and quantity is increasing steadily in recent years, thanks to research, extension inputs of Central Silk Board and state departments of sericulture and other development agencies who are striving hard for all round development of the industry. Today, the stakeholders are comparatively better informed, well-equipped and are quality and productivity conscious. In 2009-10, the domestic raw silk production reached a new high of 19,690 MT.
