In issue 34(6), researchers present data to support arguments about how to improve the quality of maternity care. The context of the studies reported varies tremendously. Locations include rural Malawi, Ghana, Tanzania, Mali, Jordan, India, and Canada. In some countries typically women give birth with the help of traditional birth attendants. Elsewhere, hospital births have become the norm. Collectively, the reader may find it helpful to consider the cultural context when making recommendations about how to improve maternity care in the future. I suggest this because the recommendations of our authors seem obviously related to situational context.
