The QJM introduces its Connected Health Review series with an initial article by Caulfield et al., where they introduce the series and how the appropriate adoption of this technology within the community will change how we practice medicine. Healthcare faces daunting challenges in the years ahead, with an older population with chronic diseases contributing to an unsustainable progressive escalation in healthcare costs. Connected Health offers the possibility of remote monitoring of patient well-being and the transfer of a proportion of care from the acute hospital environment to the community.
