One of Europe's leading collectors of historic aeroplanes, Jean Salis, died on 2 June at the age of 86. The son of Jean-Baptiste Salis, who founded the family's collection of aircraft based at La Ferte-Alais, Jean was instrumental in setting up the Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis in his father's memory, expanding activities at the airfield - especially film work - and staging the annual La Ferte airshow. He also spearheaded a mass Yak-11 recovery from Egypt and the acquisition of Skyraiders from Gabon. 'Jeannot' had remained an active pilot into his 80s. Aeroplane sends condolences to the Salis family.
