Twelve dry, non-pregnant ewes were individually penned for 47 days and fed dried grass of uniform composition. After 19 days on 1000 g/day, the feed intakes were reduced overnight to 300 g/day for the remainder of the trial. Live weights at the end of the 1000 g/day period averaged 113 lb, and at the end of the 300 g/d period, 96 lb.
