The electroencephalographic phenomenon of polyphasic spike activity was studied in 70 children. The spikes occur predominantly in the parietocentral and midtemporal areas. Correlation was made with the clinical histories of these patients in regard to the presence of seizures, seizure frequency and type and the association of behavior disorders, learning disabilities and neurologic abnormalities. A discussion of the varied presentations of this abnormality in the literature is given.
