Nigeria's minister of state for oil, Timipre Sylva, has resigned. Sylva was unlikely to have remained in office under President-Elect Bola Tinubu, who takes office in May The former oil minister hopes to retain some clout in the sector: He plans to run for governor of Bayelsa, a key oil-producing state in the Niger Delta which hosts the Brass terminal operated by Italy's Eni. In the tradition of all Nigerian leaders, Tinubu, who won elections in February, is expected to choose close allies to run the portfolio of oil and gas, which is the main source of patronage in Nigeria's economy.
