A multi-bay truck or bus workshop should ideally be equipped with both vehicle lifts and inspection pits. Although ostensibly both do the same job - facilitating safe access to the underside of vehicles -they are suited to different tasks. Pits are ideal for relatively rapid drive-in, drive-out tasks, such as routine services. But where major units such as gearboxes need to be removed, then the ability to lift a vehicle up and away becomes not just useful, but essential. Mobile lifts, especially, allow for a more flexible workshop layout, and are particularly useful where a vehicle may be immobilised for some time (for instance, while the gearbox is being repaired).
