Fortunately, the majority of patients with major depression or obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) who are treated with psychotherapy and/or pharmacotherapy improve significantly. However, a minority of treated patients do not achieve adequate symptom reduction following treatment. These patients are often described as having treatment-resistant illness.
