摘要

Current estimates have the Irish companion cat population at approximately 326,000 cats, with 30% plus of Irish households owning one or more cats. So, why is it important that we consider environmental optimisation for cats and how best to support our cat clientsln addressing this in their own homes? More and more owners are choosing to keep their cats inside their homes for some or all of the day and the veterinary profession needs to be aware of these cat's needs so we can provide our clients withappropriate advice.Behavioural problems are a common reason for both relinquishment and return of rescue cats. Aggression between cats living in the same household is cited as the most common behavioural issue resulting in relinquishment or rehoming.Referrals for behavioural assessment are most commonly for urine marking/inappropriate urination in the home (41%) followed by aggression between household cats (23%) and aggression towards people (11%).
