Coeliac disease and epilepsy

Whether there is an association between coliac disease andepilepsy is uncertain. Recently, a syn- drome of coeliac disease,occipital lobe epilepsy and cerebral calcification has beendescribed, mostly in ltaly. We measured the prevalence of celiacdisease in patients attending a seizure clinic, and investi- gatedwhether cerebral calcification occurred in patients with both celiacdisease and epilepsy. Screening for coeliac disease was by IgAendomysial Antibody, measured by indirect immunofluorescence Usingsections of human umbilical cord.
