By 2012 the Forga Aerea Brasileira (FAB, Brazilian Air Force) had decided to modernise its five E-99 AEW&C aircraft, received between 2002 and 2003, in an upgrade program that covered an active self-defence system with chaff/flare launchers linked to a complete Radar Warning Receiver (RWR); an active electronic warfare system and increased on-board power generation capability for the new systems, and provided by a larger APU.
