Crude oil exports from southern Iraq have returned to normal levels after a brief disruption caused by a leak that halted loadings from the aging Basrah oil terminal, which has recently been operating at a rate of around 1.3 million barrels per day. The incident at the terminal - also known as ABOT (Al-Basrah Oil Terminal) - highlights the decrepit state of much of Iraq's export infrastructure and the struggles that the country faces as it seeks to raise oil production. State-run Basrah Oil Co. (BOC) said on Saturday that engineers had dealt with the spill and that export operations at ABOT had returned to "normal rates" after a 24-hour hiatus, according to a statement released by Iraq's oil ministry.
