摘要

We've all heard the jaw-dropping statistics surrounding the environmental impact of disposable diapers, including that an estimated 20 billion diapers are put in landfills yearly, with each diaper requiring 500 years to decompose, thanks to the plastic components found within each "nappy." Cynthia Barnicoat, co-founder and CEO of DiaperRecycle, and her team are making significant strides in recycling diapers and keeping them out of landfills, transforming them into new and innovative product solutions. Here are her thoughts on the company's newest innovation. IFJ: What industry or consumer problem were you hoping to resolve when you began your research and development? rnicoat: As a company that aims to make a difference to climate change by recycling disposable diapers and keeping them out of landfill, we were hoping to resolve several problems. One is the problem of this waste going into landfill and the subsequent CO_2e emissions. Our aim is to keep the waste out of landfills, or incineration, to minimize climate-changing emissions. This problem is strongly aligned with a very real industry problem for diaper producers, the need for effective product stewardship, by providing a sustainable "grave" solution for this waste. Recycling offers the sustainable waste solution sought for diapers.
