Following more than four years of restoration work, the New Zealand Catalina Preservation Society's Canadian Vickers Canso ZK-PBY should be flying again during March. Work has been under way in a hangar at New Plymouth Airport on the country's North Island, where the wings, trailing edge surfaces, float attachments and floats have all been repaired, reassembled and repainted. The engines have been run, and now the propellers have been taken off for repair and re-balancing. Following application of Royal New Zealand Air Force squadron markings, the aircraft will be weighed and then test flying will commence. It is anticipated that ZK-PBY will make its first airshow appearance in five years at the biennial Warbirds over Wanaka Airshow on 25 March.
