The performance of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas during recent hot weather shows that reliability reforms are working and will continue to work well this summer even amid expected record demand, Peter Lake, chairman of the Public Utility Commission of Texas, said May 17. “We were tested last weekend and our reforms worked,” Lake said during a press conference. “The lights are going to stay on this summer.” ERCOT expects it will have adequate reserves to meet load under all but the most extreme scenarios, according to ERCOT’s Seasonal Assessment of Resource Adequacy for Summer 2022.
