Concerned about gear strength used for industrial gear reducer, both bending strength and surface one is important characteristic. Generally latter one is decisive of output torque of reducers. It is mainly reported related to improvement of surface strength of carburized gear material being taken into consideration of bending strength. Many machining processes are applied to ground gear after curburization, and evaluated through durability tests and detections of surface characteristics. Consequently, in the case of shotpeening and barrelling after grinding, the improvement of the caburized gear surpassed the other ones remarkably because of improvement of surface roughness and its asperity. Addition to it, few wear is found. Lubrication parameter, D value is used for explanation of pitting and wear phenomena. Precision of the gear is also maintained after shotpeening and barrelling. Finally, it is found that shotpeening and barrelling precesses are effective methods for improvement of both surface strength and bending strength.
