In this paper, we consider sufficient conditions for ruling outsome useless iteration steps in a class of soft- decision iterativedecoding algorithms for binary block codes used over the AWGN channelusing BPSK signaling. Sufficient condi- tions for ruling out the nextsingle decoding step, called ruling-out conditions and those forruling out all the subsequent iteration steps, called earlytermination conditions, are formulated in a unified way withoutdegradation of error performance.
