Too few patients medicated for alcohol dependence

Katherine Watkins and coauthors reported that 16.4 percent of Veterans Health Administration (VHA) patients with alcohol dependence received pharmacotherapy approved by the Food and Drug Administration for this disorder, and the authors highlight this as an area needing improvement (Nov 2011). I could not agree more with the conclusion.
