Hip fracture in young heroin addict man with concomitant soft tissue abscess

Herein we present a rare case of interotrochanteric fracture in a heroin addicted young man after a simple fall from his height. In addition, the presence of concomitant soft tissue abscess near the fracture area made the case more complex. We report the successful treatment of hip fracture with a concomitant soft tissue abscess by intramedullary nailing, antibiotics and methadone, without reccurent hip infection, in a heroin addicted man. We also discuss the complications of soft tissue and osteopenia in heroin abusers. Springer-Verlag 2006.
