A continuous absorption spectrum without a neighboring band spectrum and a convergence limit was investigated in the region of the ultraviolet of a number of polyatomic molecules: Halogen alkyls, alcohols, mercaptans, cyan compounds and other miscellaneous compounds. The energy of dissociation was, in each case, calculated from the absorption edge, considering the probable mechanism of the photodissociation process. Some remarks are given on the relationship between the dissociation energy of the bond and the structure of the molecule. Finally, some consideration is given to the Raman effects and infrared spectra as related to the bond energy of the molecules.
