Congress Passes Compromise FDA Bill Reauthorizing PDUFA

The House and Senate passed a compromise bill reauthorizin the Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) and expanding the FDA's drug safety oversight. The bill now goes to the president to be signed into law. The Senate passed the bill, H.R. 3580, Sept. 20 without amendment through unanimous consent procedure, which does not require a roll call vote. Earlier in the day, the bill's future was uncer-tain, as several senators had placed holds on it, preventing a vote, a spokeswoman for Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.) told WDL. However, the senators later lifted their holds.
