In the floorplan design problem, soft blocks can take variousrectilinear shapes. The conventional floorplanning methods, however,restrict their shapes only to rectangle. As a re- sult, waste areaoften remains in the layout. Some floorplanning methods have beendeveloped to handle rectilinear hard blocks, however, nofloorplanning methods have been developed to op- timize rectilinearsoft blocks. In this paper, we propose a floor- planning method whichplaces rectilinear soft blocks. The advan- tages of the method arereducing both waste area and wire length.
