Japan's coastal fisheries are in a difficult situation due to declining fishing resources, deteriorating fishing grounds, fewer fishers and stagnant domestic fish consumption. For its sustainable development, restoration of the fishery resources and appropriate adaptation to market requirements are necessary. Key activities are strengthening fisheries management and cross-regional and business collaboration by sharing information among stakeholders. Integrated coastal management is also important for environmental conservation and the harmonious development of fiseries and local societies.
