Global population is predicted to reach 9 billion by 2050 (Ray et al., 2013). Food production must increase at least by 70% (Global agriculture toward 2050. Rome, FAO, 2009a) to feed those people. The current production growth won't meet 2050 targets. There will be yield losses due to problems of climate change. Arable land will become more limited due to the population growth. Soil quality and fertility will decline if we don't take measures to stop it. Major shift in rainfall patterns has already been experiencing all around the world. The crop growth cycles (phenology) will be affected.
