Some Hydrogen Bridge Models for Globular Proteins

Two hypothetical types of structure, derived by folding from basic patterns containing extended zigzag polypeptide chains, joined together by hydrogen bridges, are described and critically discussed. The (idealized, undistorted) 288‐residue open‐ended octahedron model has suitable horizontal dimensions but is somewhat too large vertically to fit satisfactorily into the unit cell of air‐dried insulin.
