Covering the entire British studio ceramics movement, the Centre of Ceramic Art (CoCA) at York Art Gallery has, even before opening, been talked of as groundbreaking in the world of ceramics. Containing the work of over 600 artists, this collection has a story of philanthropy behind it. The gallery became the first public space dedicated to showing British studio pottery when some 190 pieces belonging to Eric Milner-White (1884-1963), Dean of York, were given to it in 1958.
