ABSTRACTOne believes that lumbar intervertebral disc size and volume vary according to body size. A literature search disclosed no reports supporting this hypothesis. We collected data retrospectively by measuring the volumes of normal L4–5 discs derived from computer tomography and correlating this information with age, height, weight, and body surface area (BSA) in square meters in 108 male and female patients.
