In the present study, MASW tests have been performed at thirteen locations of Varanasi city to measure shear wave (SW) velocity. Varanasi city (Uttar Pradesh, India) is under high seismic risk as it is situated in Indo-Gangetic plain, which falls under seismically active Himalayan belt. Measured SW velocity from MASW test was used to estimate V-s(30) for site classification (IBC 2009) of the city, Varanasi. The study area is classified under site classes D and C. For the city, relations have been derived between SW velocity measured by the MASW test and "N"-value. Proposed relations showed positive results when examined graphically and compared with the existing worldwide correlations. Further, these relations would be useful in site response analysis of the city.
