PNG is emerging as a country with signifcant potential in the global LNG scramble. Its strategic location for exports has drawn interest in its underexplored acreage, with Canada's Talisman Energy highlight- ing that only a few thousand kilometres of seismic data have been acquired since 1975. Moreover, as the accompanying table illustrates, LNG projects in PNG could beneft from lower development costs compared to neighbouring projects in Australia, with a weaker local currency among the factors supporting the cost difference.
