Role of bacterial adherence in urinary tract infection

This review considers bacterial virulence factors, including adhesins such as fimbriae, as well as other factors that increase the pathogenicity of adherent organisms, such as hemolysin. The importance of the secretor status and its effect on bacterial adherence now enable us to understand at least the initial factors in urinary tract infection.
