Fast breeder test reactor (FBTR) of 50 MWt, 13.2 MWe is in operation at Kalpakkam, India. It has a full fledged steam water system with addition of a dump condenser (DC) to condense all the steam in the event of non availability of turbine generator (TG). For smooth changeover from the TG operation to DC operation, a control scheme was evolved. Towards this a computer code POWDYN is developed based on a one dimensional simulation model of the steam water system. Different control schemes are analyzed with the code and final scheme arrived at. This paper presents the details of FBTR steam water system;;the simulation model used for control studies and predicted response of the steam water system to different transients.
