As shown elsewhere with this article, in the background of Eric Ravilious's 1942 painting De-icing Aircraft can be seen a camouflaged DH Dominie, being cleared of snow. When film-maker Margy Kinmonth was in the early throes of preparing a feature documentary on Ravilious's life, she approached the Imperial War Museums, whose art collection contains many of his works. In turn, contact was made with Mark Miller of Duxford-based de Havilland Support Ltd - and, of course, owner-pilot of Dragon Rapide G-AGJG, in its wartime Scottish Airways livery the closest match to the example shown in De-Icing Aircraft. Margy Kinmonth duly visited Duxford, hosted by Paris Agar, an IWM senior curator in the Cold War and late 20th-century conflict team specialising in art - and whose uncle is Mosquito NJ711 restorer Tony Agar. They viewed the Rapide, and the upshot was a return to the Cambridgeshire airfield for some filming on 10 October 2020, the date of an IWM Flying Day.
