French independent Maurel & Prom (M&P) is in advanced talks to acquire Assala Energy, one of Gabon’s biggest crude oil producers, the company said June 14. The deal would increase M&P’s group production from around 27,000 b/d to 72,000 b/d and make it the second-biggest player in the West African country, after Anglo-French company Perenco. In a statement, M&P said it was informing the market that it is in “advanced discussions” with Assala Energy Holdings’ shareholder, private equity company Carlyle Group, about purchasing of all Assala’s shares.
