Atholl Estate has a long history of forestry and is especially well known for its links to larch, the original hybrid having been discovered here in the 1890s. The forestry extends to 4,500ha, of which 19% is larch. The impact of Phytophthora ramorumhas been huge, with nineteen confirmed sites and three pending test results. Clearance of infected areas has been followed by a programme of positive action to alter the species mix.
