THE RECENT major power outage which hit petrochemical facilities on the Indonesian island of Java last month has again put under the spotlight an issue which is costing the industry mounting sums in lost revenue.The 18 August blackout,apparently caused by a steam line leak in the Suralaya power station,is the latest in a long line of technical problems which are creating an increasing sense of gloom and resignation among companies operating in Java,who are also battling the effects of rising energy costs and increasing concerns over the plummeting Rupiah currency.
