Electric Arc Furnace Steelmakers’ Bid Prices of Scrap / Surge to Reach 60,000 Yen Mark for First Time in 13.5 Years / Affected by High Overseas Prices, Dockside Prices Continue to Rise Ahead of Bid Prices
The bid prices for scrap of electric arc furnace steelmakers in the Kanto region have continued to rise by 3,000 yen and the bid prices for H2 scrap have surged and reached the 60,000 yen per ton mark for the first time in 13 years and 7 months. In response to rising dockside prices, on March 10th Tokyo Steel’s Utsunomiya Plant raised the bid prices for all product types by 3,000 yen. Other manufacturers have also moved to raising their bid prices by 2,000-3,500 yen. As of March 10th, the actual purchase prices (of H2) by manufacturers are around 59,500-60,500 yen. In some cases prices rose as high as over 61,000 yen. As for dockside prices (of H2), they continue to rise ahead of bid prices with the highest prices reaching 62,000 yen.
