摘要

The educational rhythm at universities teaching naval architecture and marine engineering was upended by COVID-19, just like the rest of the marine industry. In a campus setting, the response to COVID-19 ran through three distinct phases: an initial transition to emergency remote instruction starting in winter 2020, a distance-learning dominated 2020-2021 academic year, and a cautious return to primarily in-person instruction for the 2021-2022 academic year. Universities have been pushed to experiment with and invest in instructional approaches at an unprecedented rate throughout this process. The lessons from this time period will shape the future of marine education for years to come. Here, we'll explore the experiences and approaches of six leading international marine universities: the University of Michigan (UM) in the United States; Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), located in Wuhan, China; the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) located in Trondheim, Norway; Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) located in Hamburg, Germany; Southampton University located in Southampton, United Kingdom; and Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) located in Delft, Netherlands.
