FOREIGN BODIES in the urinary bladder are uncommon and in many instances are self-introduced. Objects may also enter the bladder through migration and erosion, or iatrogenically, as occurs with broken pieces of Foley catheter balloons. Reasons for self-introduction of foreign objects include eroticism, intoxication, attempted abortion, senility, curiosity, and psychologic abnormalities. Diagnosis is usually made from a history of foreign body insertion and by radiologic studies. Occasionally, however, the history may be incredible, and it may be tempting to disregard the story as impossible based on physical or radiologic findings. We report such a case, in which a young female patient's claims seemed farfetched but proved to be true.
