AHEAD OF ITS LAUNCH, market analysts predicted that sales of Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3) would be hit by its comparatively high price. But the new high-end games console was guaranteed some early purchasers as the first 100,000 units went on sale in Japan. Together with teardown analysts, component suppliers keen to show off that they had been chosen for the flagship product despatched executives to collect machines from Tokyo and fly with them back to base or, in one case, to the biennial Electronica trade show in Munich, Germany.
