An original approach proposed earlier by the authors for studying the statistical regularities of the broadening of the individual bands in the optical spectra of liquid systems is used to analyze the experimental data concerning the shape of the Q band of the first overtone in the vibrational-rotational absorption spectrum of a solution of HCl in CCl_4 at room temperature. It is shown that the concepts developed here can be used to provide an adequate quantitative description of the contour of the spectral band of interest, the predominant contribution to the formation of which, exceeding 80, is made by the fluctuational mechanism of inhomogeneous broadening.
