According to the Japan Welded Gas Cylinder Association,the number of welded cylinders produced in calendar 2021 increased 3.5% from the previous year to 1.95 million cylinders.The main welded cylinders,LP gas cylinders,also rose by 3.2%.By capacity,50-kg cylinders dropped 0.5%,while 20-kg cylinders rose 8.7%.One manufacturer said,"Based on replacement demand for 50-kg cylinders,we thought the decline would be a little larger.It is expected that production will drop in 2022 compared to 2021 by the amount of the expected drop that did not occur in 2021."Production quantities remained solid,but cylinder prices increased in 2021 due to higher steel prices.Chugoku Kogyo,the top manufacturer of welded cylinders,raised prices in October 2021,January 2022,and July 2022.In addition to this company,multiple other companies are thought to have raised prices,and a last minute surge in demand occurred in June.
