In the latest revival of fortunes for Airbus's super jumbo, German flag carrier Lufthansa has confirmed it is to restart scheduled A380 operations next summer, citing "a steep rise in customer demand." Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr confirmed that up to five of the jets will be deployed from the airline's Munich hub. Although precise routes have yet to be published, trunk routes plied by the A380 prior to its premature retirement are most likely. The airline officially fields 14 A380s, of which six have been sold (reportedly for parts or scrap). The other eight have been parked up across locations in both Spain or France since the emergence of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but officially remain part of the fleet.
