ABSTRACTFecal incontinence due to physical and emotional factors can be devastating to the self‐esteem of a child in the school setting. Approaches to the nursing management of a child with this condition are evaluated. Erikson's theory of psychosocial development is used to analyze compensatory behaviors in the child, and to plan a system of nursing care that will foster autonomy. Dorothea E.
