The paper discusses some of the problems involved in applying Game Theory to military situations, for example in the selection of the correct pay-off and the problem of the possible variability in the results. These problems are considered in detail in the context of the application of Game Theory to Mine Countermeasures Operations of Limited Duration. It is shown how a simple finite game may be used to provide solutions to more complicated and realistic situations, particularly when the more complex situation can be made to yield saddle-point solutions.
