The "Concorde of regional travel": that is how US charter airline and seaplane operator Tailwind Air is hoping to establish itself after its launch last summer of the first services between harbours in Manhattan and downtown Boston in half a century. Commercial supersonic air travel may have ended abruptly almost two decades ago but the veteran-owned start-up is seeking to revive the exclusivity associated with that bygone golden era of luxury flight. With a growing fleet of amphibian craft, the New York-based company aims to address gaps in regional air mobility while offering significant time savings to customers, using waterways and smaller airports close to urban centres.
