This past summer felt like a season of whiplash. Here in Texas, where I live, summer hit us with a fury. In June, we baked in a climate-induced heat wave. By July, we were broiling. And we weren't alone. At one point in late July, some 100 million Americans could barely breathe under heat that was intense enough to cause heat stroke and premature death. Temperatures have been some of the highest on record: 100℉ in New York City, 110℉ in Oklahoma City. It got so hot that a London airport tarmac melted.
