Even to a Brit, brought up on seeing this Sydney Camm creation in the various shipshape iterations of Fleet Air Arm schemes, it looks superb, the two-tone desert camouflage lending an even more aggressive air to those familiar lines. And, without the so-called 'Baghdad Furies,' the warbird world would be much the poorer. All the better, therefore, to see one painted properly back in European skies. For the Belgian owner-pilot of this Hawker Fury ISS - Iraqi Single-Seat - there really was no other choice. Having acquired the former Iraqi Air Force fighter-bomber, Kris Van den Bergh decided complete authenticity was the way to go. The Bristol Centaurus XVIII radial engine would stay, when so many Furies and Sea Furies have been switched to Wright R-3350 or Pratt & Whitney R-2800 power. So would the original Iraqi markings, already applied when the part-restored aeroplane came into his hands. The result has exceeded even its custodian's considerable expectations.
