In this issue of Obesity Management, CORE highlights the New York Obesity Research Center (NYORC). This center is funded by the NIH and is in its 28th year of continuous funding. In its last competitive renewal, it achieved a very high priority score. It is made up of 10 cores: 7 are funded by the Obesity/Clinical Nutrition Research Units (CNRU)/National Institute of Digestive Diseases, Diabetes and Kidney Disorders (NIDDK) Grant, 1 by the Center for Translational Medicine at Columbia, and 1 that is self-sustaining.There is an Administrative Core, a Human Phenotyp-ing Core that includes subcores in Body Composition, Energy Expenditure, Hormone and Metabolite, and Inges-tive Behavior all at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center. There is a Molecular Biology/Molecular Genetics Core, an Adipose Tissue Core at Columbia University Medical Center, and an Animal Phenotyping Core at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The Obesity Center utilizes resources of the Columbia University Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research. Finally, there is a self-sustaining core that is a Patient Outreach Core at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital, including weight loss-treatment, weight-loss and maintenance investigation, and clinical pharmacology.
