In rural Suffolk, close in the leafy village of Lavenham, west of Ipswich, a modest hangar and workshops belie the fact that the cottage engineering business based within has, for many years, been the leading rebuilder of Sir Sydney Camm's famous monoplane fighter. Picturesque Moat Farm is home to Hawker Restorations, where an upsurge of interest in the Hurricane has helped ensure plenty of work for the company's engineers. Far fewer Hurricanes than Spitfires have emerged from the warbird restoration movement in the past 30 years. This is, of course, in no small measure down to the fact that Hurricanes are notoriously more difficult to restore. And that in turn makes what Hawker Restorations does all the more notable, particularly given how long it takes to return a Hurricane to airworthiness.
